Senate Resolution No. 41 BY: Senator BRESLIN HONORING Bruce Sowalski upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Sister Mary Coons Award by The Food Pantries for the Capital District on October 4, 2018 WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made significant contributions to the quality of life therein; and WHEREAS, From time to time, this Legislative Body takes note of certain extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among us all; and WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Bruce Sowalski upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Sister Mary Coons Award by The Food Pantries for the Capital District, to be observed at its 7th Annual Harvest Evening Celebration on Thursday, October 4, 2018, at Franklin Plaza in Troy, New York; and WHEREAS, Bruce Sowalski is receiving this auspicious award for his many contributions to The Food Pantries of the Capital District, and to the people this valuable organization serves; and WHEREAS, Since 2005, Bruce Sowalski has been a strong supporter of the fight against hunger; through the years, he has served The Food Pantries for the Capital District in numerous capacities including unloading the 2,000 pound twice-monthly food deliveries and unloading their weekly 5,000 pound deliveries every Monday; and WHEREAS, In 2011, Bruce Sowalski became a member of The Food Pantries Board of Directors, and from 2014-2016, he held the title of President; today, he is the Secretary of the Board and serves on its Finance, Personnel and Building Committees; he also regularly attends member meetings; and WHEREAS, In addition to his work with The Food Pantries, Bruce Sowalski volunteers with the Sand Lake Business Association, the Citizens Statewide Lake Assessment Program, and the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society; and WHEREAS, Bruce Sowalski truly believes that we can all find ways to give to our community, and knows that by doing so, he gets more than he gives; and WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to honor Bruce Sowalski upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Sister Mary Coons Award by The Food Pantries for the Capital District; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to Bruce Sowalski.
