        AN ACT to amend the election law, in relation to  authorizing  registra-
          tion  records of victims of sexual violence to be kept confidential in
          certain cases

          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section  1.  Paragraph  (a)  of  subdivision 2 of section 5-508 of the
     2  election law, as amended by chapter 521 of the laws of 2021, is  amended
     3  to read as follows:
     4    (a)  A  victim of domestic violence or any person who is a victim of a
     5  crime defined in article one hundred thirty of the penal law may deliver
     6  to the board of elections, in the county wherein such victim of domestic
     7  violence or victim of a crime defined in article one hundred  thirty  of
     8  the penal law is registered or intends to be registered pursuant to this
     9  article,  in  person  or by mail, a signed written statement swearing or
    10  affirming:
    11    (i) that such person is the victim of domestic violence or victim of a
    12  crime defined in article one hundred thirty of the penal law; and
    13    (ii) that because of the threat of physical or emotional harm to them-
    14  self or to family or household members, such  person  wishes  for  their
    15  registration record to be kept confidential.
    16    § 2. This act shall take effect on the one hundred twentieth day after
    17  it  shall have become a law. Effective immediately, the addition, amend-
    18  ment and/or repeal of any rule or regulation necessary for the implemen-
    19  tation of this act on its effective date are authorized to be made on or
    20  before such date.
