       AN  ACT  to  amend  the  general municipal law, in relation to continued
         service credit for volunteer firefighters in  volunteer  firefighters'
         service award programs
         THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
       BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
    1    Section 1. Section 217 of the general  municipal  law  is  amended  by
    2  adding a new subdivision (p) to read as follows:
    3    (P) A PARTICIPANT IN A SERVICE AWARD PROGRAM WHO ATTAINS THE AGE WHERE
    4  HE  OR  SHE  IS  ENTITLED  TO  BENEFITS UNDER SUCH PROGRAM AND ELECTS TO
    5  RECEIVE SUCH BENEFITS SHALL CONTINUE TO BE ELIGIBLE TO  EARN  ADDITIONAL
    6  CREDITS  FOR  EACH  CONTINUED  YEAR  OF SERVICE AND SHALL BE ELIGIBLE TO
    7  RECEIVE ADDITIONAL BENEFIT PAYMENTS FOR SUCH ADDITIONAL CREDITS EARNED.
    8    S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
