        AN ACT to amend the election law, in relation  to  filing  name  of  new
          political party
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
     1    Section 1. Subdivision 1 of section  2-124  of  the  election  law  is
     2  amended to read as follows:
     3    1.  The  state  committee of a party shall select a name and emblem to
     4  distinguish the candidates  of  the  party  for  public  office  in  all
     5  districts  of the state, and shall file in the office of the state board
     6  of elections, a certificate executed  by  its  chairman  and  secretary,
     7  setting  forth the name and showing the emblem so selected.  A new party
     8  shall file such first certificate not later than the last day of  Febru-
     9  ary  following  the election at which the party obtains party status and
    10  shall take effect upon filing. Any other certificate filed changing  the
    11  name  of  a party shall take effect on the last day of January after the
    12  next gubernatorial election.
    13    § 2. This act shall take effect on the first of January after it shall
    14  have become a law.
