       AN ACT to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of
         the  state  highway  system  in  Nassau  county as the "Police Officer
         Arthur Lopez Memorial Bridge"
         THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
       BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
    1    Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section 344-d to
    2  read as follows:
    3    S  344-D.  PORTION  OF  THE  STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM TO BE DESIGNATED AND
    4  KNOWN AS THE "POLICE OFFICER ARTHUR LOPEZ MEMORIAL BRIDGE".  THE BRIDGES
    5  ON JERICHO TURNPIKE CROSSING THE CROSS ISLAND PARKWAY NEAR EXIT  27E  IN
    6  THE  COUNTIES OF QUEENS AND NASSAU SHALL EACH BE DESIGNATED AND KNOWN AS
    7  THE "POLICE OFFICER ARTHUR LOPEZ MEMORIAL BRIDGE".
    8    S 2. The commissioner of transportation shall provide for the  instal-
    9  lation  and  maintenance of adequate signing of the state highway system
   10  as designated pursuant to section one of this  act;  provided  that,  to
   11  avoid  any  confusion  and to limit any possible disruption of commerce,
   12  the designations called for pursuant to section one of this act shall be
   13  one of ceremonial nature and the official name of such bridges shall not
   14  be changed as a result of this act.
   15    S 3. This act shall take effect on the ninetieth day  after  it  shall
   16  have become a law.
