LOPEZ, MOLINARO, OAKS, O'MARA, RAIA, REILICH, SALADINO, SAYWARD, SPANO, TOWNSEND, WALKER -- read once and referred to the Committee on Higher Education AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to establishing grant programs for on-line and distant learning classes THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: 1 Section 1. Section 355 of the education law is amended by adding a new 2 subdivision 20 to read as follows: 3 20. THE STATE UNIVERSITY TRUSTEES SHALL ESTABLISH A GRANT PROGRAM AT 4 EACH OF THE SIXTY-FOUR CAMPUSES FOR ON-LINE AND DISTANT LEARNING CLASS- 5 ES. SUCH GRANTS SHALL BE USED TO DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT NEW PROGRAMS OR 6 TO EXPAND CURRENT ON-LINE AND DISTANT LEARNING CLASSES. THE USES SHALL 7 INCLUDE, BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO, COURSE CONVERSATION, HARDWARE AND SOFT- 8 WARE AND NETWORKING WITH CAMPUSES THAT HAVE SIMILAR PROGRAMS. SUCH 9 GRANTS MAY NOT EXCEED TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS FOR EACH CAMPUS. 10 S 2. Section 6206 of the education law is amended by adding a new 11 subdivision 17 to read as follows: 12 17. THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES SHALL ESTABLISH A GRANT PROGRAM AT EACH OF 13 THE NINETEEN CAMPUSES, INCLUDING COMMUNITY COLLEGES, FOR ON-LINE AND 14 DISTANT LEARNING CLASSES. SUCH GRANTS SHALL BE USED TO DEVELOP AND 15 IMPLEMENT NEW PROGRAMS OR TO EXPAND CURRENT ON-LINE AND DISTANT LEARNING 16 CLASSES. THE USES SHALL INCLUDE, BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO, COURSE CONVERSA- 17 TION, HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE AND NETWORKING WITH CAMPUSES THAT HAVE SIMI- 18 LAR PROGRAMS.
