        AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to requiring  all  school
          districts to purchase and provide assistive technology devices when an
          item is put on an individualized education program

          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section 1. Section 305 of the education law is amended by adding a new
     2  subdivision 59 to read as follows:
     3    59. The commissioner is authorized and directed  to  promulgate  rules
     4  and  regulations to require all school districts to purchase and provide
     5  assistive technology devices and services as  required  by  a  student's
     6  individualized  education  program.  Such  devices and services shall be
     7  purchased and provided no later than two months after the  committee  on
     8  special  education  meets  and deems such item and/or services necessary
     9  for the student's individualized education program.
    10    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
