AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to increasing the total
awards of the Senator Patricia K. McGee nursing faculty scholarship
program
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. Paragraph a of subdivision 3 of section 679-c of the educa-
2 tion law, as amended by section 1 of part E3 of chapter 57 of the laws
3 of 2007, is amended to read as follows:
4 a. equal to the [tuition] total cost charged to state resident
5 students attending a master's degree program in nursing or doctoral
6 degree program that will qualify them as nursing faculty or adjunct
7 clinical faculty at the state university of New York[; the average
8 mandatory fees charged at the state university of New York, or the actu-
9 al tuition and fees charged to the recipient, whichever is less; and the
10 average non-tuition cost of attendance, as determined by the corporation
11 and as approved by the director of the budget, for a student at the
12 state university of New York or actual non-tuition cost of attendance at
13 such institution, whichever is less], provided that the scholarship
14 shall not exceed an amount that is equal to the total cost of attendance
15 determined for federal Title IV student financial aid purposes[, less
16 all other scholarships and grants provided by New York state, other
17 states, the federal government, or other governments, and the amount of
18 educational benefits paid under any program that would duplicate the
19 purposes of this program, provided that any scholarships or grants
20 provided to a recipient by the institution which are intended to fund
21 any portion of the difference between the annual state award and the
22 actual costs of attendance at any such institution shall not be consid-
23 ered to duplicate the purposes of this program].
24 § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
