          to the Committee on Transportation

        AN ACT in relation to penalties for striking  a  pedestrian  crossing  a
          street while operating a motor vehicle

          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section 1. The commissioner of the department  of  motor  vehicles  is
     2  hereby  directed  to amend and/or adopt rules and regulations to provide
     3  that any person who is convicted or enters a guilty  plea  of  violating
     4  section  1151 and/or 1151-a of the vehicle and traffic law shall receive
     5  5 points on his or her driving record.
     6    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
