        AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to the cost effectiveness
          of tangible equipment
          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
     1    Section  1. Paragraph d of subdivision 4 of section 1950 of the educa-
     2  tion law is amended by adding a new subparagraph 6 to read as follows:
     3    (6) Cost effectiveness  of  tangible  equipment.  Notwithstanding  any
     4  other  provision  of this section to the contrary, expenditures incurred
     5  by component school districts in compliance with the  general  municipal
     6  law,  pursuant to purchase and/or installation contracts entered into on
     7  or after January fifteenth, two thousand, for  equipment  including  but
     8  not  limited to furniture, bulletin boards, tangible instructional mate-
     9  rials and classroom aids, shall be an acceptable expense for  BOCES  aid
    10  if the component school district demonstrates the purchase would be more
    11  cost-effective than would otherwise be possible if such services were to
    12  be purchased without the consideration of BOCES aid.
    13    §  2.  The commissioner shall promulgate rules, regulations and stand-
    14  ards to implement the provisions of this act.
    15    § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
