CHRISTENSEN, DESTITO, GLICK, GOTTFRIED, HOOPER, McENENY, SCARBOROUGH, WEISENBERG -- read once and referred to the Committee on Education AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to requirements for use of school property by outside organizations THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: 1 Section 1. Paragraph (c) of subdivision 1 of section 414 of the educa- 2 tion law, as amended by chapter 257 of the laws of 1976, is amended to 3 read as follows: 4 (c) For holding social, civic and recreational meetings and enter- 5 tainments, and other uses pertaining to the welfare of the community; 6 but such meetings, entertainment and uses shall be non-exclusive and 7 shall be open to the general public. CIVIC MEETINGS SHALL INCLUDE, BUT 8 NOT BE LIMITED TO, MEETINGS OF PARENT ASSOCIATIONS AND PARENT TEACHER 9 ASSOCIATIONS. THE BOARD OF EDUCATION OR TRUSTEES OF A SCHOOL DISTRICT 10 SHALL PREPARE AND DISTRIBUTE TO ANY ORGANIZATION OR GROUP WHICH SPONSORS 11 A MEETING, ENTERTAINMENT OR OTHER USE A WRITTEN NOTICE STATING THAT SUCH 12 EVENTS ARE REQUIRED TO BE NON-EXCLUSIVE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. 13 S 2.
