STATEMENT

This bill permits the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs to accept gifts, grants, donations from the public and private sectors for the purpose of public service announcements for the New Jersey Youth Challenge Academy.

The New Jersey Youth Challenge Academy is a 22-week residential program held at the National Guard Training Center in Sea Girt, County of Monmouth, New Jersey, designed to train and mentor teenage youth to become more responsible and productive citizens of their community, State, and country. The highly structured, 22-week program integrates quasi-military training, academic instruction, and life skills training to offer participants a transformational experience that further develops their physical, social, and intellectual abilities. Graduates of the program are better prepared to continue their journey as confident, responsible, and motivated youth in society.

Revenues received by the department will be deposited into a special non-lapsing fund maintained by the State Treasurer.
