STATEMENT

This bill expands the extent to which property is exempt from attachment.

The bill removes the current limit of $1,000 in value for the exemption from attachment for household goods and furniture, making the exemption unlimited in value. The bill also clarifies that this exemption includes personal computers and related equipment, and that the exemption applies to property held primarily for the personal, family, educational or household use of the person or a dependent of the person.

In addition, the bill adds exemptions for: (1) the person's
interest, not to exceed $4,000 in aggregate value, in wearing apparel that is held primarily for the personal, family or household use of the person or dependent of the person; and (2) the person's interest, not to exceed $5,000 in value, in one motor vehicle.
