CURRENT VERSION OF TEXT

     As introduced.

An Assembly Resolution affirming the importance of modernizing and replacing certain natural gas pipelines in this State.

Whereas, Natural gas pipelines installed in this State in the early 1900s consisted of cast iron and unprotected steel gas distribution and service pipelines to homes and businesses; and

Whereas, The replacement of natural gas pipelines that are more than 100 years old is paramount to public safety and the reliability of natural gas infrastructure in this State; and

Whereas, The advent of new and innovative technologies used to extract natural gas from the ground has lead to a larger supply of natural gas; and

Whereas, Because there is a larger supply of natural gas, the citizens of this State are receiving lower electric and gas utility bills; and

Whereas, It would be prudent to use the savings realized from cheaper natural gas to invest in this State's natural gas infrastructure; and

Whereas, Modernizing the State's natural gas pipelines by replacing antiquated natural gas pipelines will spur economic growth by creating many new construction jobs and by incentivizing businesses to relocate to, or remain in, this State; and

Whereas, Modernizing the State's natural gas pipelines by replacing older natural gas pipelines will improve public safety in this State by reducing the occurrence of destructive accidents due to crumbling natural gas infrastructure; and

Whereas, It is altogether fitting and proper for this House to affirm the importance of modernizing the State's natural gas pipelines by replacing antiquated natural gas pipelines in this State in order to ensure public safety, to improve the reliability of natural gas infrastructure, and to foster economic growth and job creation; now, therefore,

Be It Resolved by the General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

STATEMENT

This resolution affirms the importance of modernizing the State's natural gas pipelines by replacing older natural gas pipelines in order to ensure public safety, to improve the reliability of natural gas infrastructure, and to foster economic growth and job creation.

Natural gas pipelines installed in this State in the early 1900s consisted of cast iron and unprotected steel gas distribution and service pipelines to homes and businesses. The replacement of natural gas pipelines that are more than 100 years old is paramount to public safety and the reliability of natural gas infrastructure in this State.

The advent of new and innovative technologies used to extract natural gas from the ground has lead to a larger supply of natural gas.  Because there is a larger supply of natural gas, the citizens of this State are receiving lower electric and gas utility bills.  It would be prudent to use the savings realized from cheaper natural gas to invest in this State's natural gas infrastructure.

Modernizing and replacing antiquated natural gas pipelines will spur economic growth through the creation of many new construction jobs and improve public safety by reducing the occurrence of destructive accidents due to crumbling natural gas infrastructure.
