SYNOPSIS

     Designating fourth Wednesday in May of each year as "Crisis Professionals Day."

A Joint Resolution designating the fourth Wednesday in May of each year as "Crisis Professionals Day."

 

Whereas, Crisis professionals are trained professionals who engage with people who are experiencing a crisis; and

Whereas, Crisis professionals directly engage with people when they are most vulnerable, oftentimes as a result of illness and trauma, in effort to deescalate the crisis using methods that center around empathy, support, and hope; and

Whereas, When engaging with a person who is experiencing a crisis, the crisis professional assesses the situation and implements a course of care so that the children, adults, and families involved can obtain the treatment and support they need and deserve; and

Whereas, Crisis professionals face high stress situations on a regular basis and as a result have earned the State's highest respect and gratitude; and

Whereas, As a critical part of the acute care that New Jerseyans receive across the State, crisis professionals engage with New Jerseyans during the most traumatic, stressful, and challenging times of their lives; and

Whereas, It is fitting to recognize and honor the life changing and lifesaving services that crisis professionals provide, as well as, the invaluable contributions they have provided to thousands of New Jerseyans and communities throughout the State; now, therefore,

 

     Be It Resolved by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1. The fourth Wednesday in May of each year is designated as "Crisis Professionals Day" in the State of New Jersey in order to recognize and honor the importance of crisis professionals and the services they provide as they enhance human wellbeing and mental health, restore functioning, and save lives, by contributing to high quality, context relevant behavioral health services.

 

     2. The Governor is respectively requested to annually issue a proclamation recognizing the fourth Wednesday in May of each year as "Crisis Professionals Day" in New Jersey, and calling upon public officials and the citizens of this State to observe the day with appropriate activities and programs.

 

     3. This joint resolution shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This joint resolution permanently designates the fourth Wednesday in May as "Crisis Professionals Day."  Crisis professionals are trained professionals that engage with people who are experiencing a crisis.  These professionals directly engage with people when they are most vulnerable, oftentimes as a result of their illness and trauma, in effort to deescalate the crisis using methods that center around empathy, support, and hope. 

     Crisis professionals face high-stress situations on a regular basis and as a result have earned the State's highest respect and gratitude.  It is fitting to recognize and honor the life changing and lifesaving services that crisis professionals provide, as well as, the invaluable contributions they have provided to thousands of New Jerseyans and communities throughout the State.
