CURRENT VERSION OF TEXT

A Joint Resolution designating May 20 of each year as "All Health Causes Day" in New Jersey.

Whereas, This State seeks to bring awareness to its citizens throughout the year about serious chronic and acute illnesses and disorders and other health concerns; and

Whereas, The effort to bring awareness to the public serves to encourage more research into, and improved treatments for, specific chronic and acute illnesses and disorders that affect many citizens in New Jersey; and

Whereas, The effort to bring awareness to the public also serves to better inform the public about specific chronic and acute illnesses and disorders, and to enable the public to access services and care and treatment that may be beneficial to them in addressing their own health concerns; and

Whereas, The challenge of coping with serious chronic and acute illnesses and disorders and other health concerns is one that affects New Jerseyans from all walks of life, regardless of their economic circumstances or location of residence; and

Whereas, Although treatments for specific chronic illnesses and disorders are typically unique to an illness or disorder, persons with different illnesses and disorders often share the same needs for services and assistance in living with their illness or disorder; and

Whereas, It is also important to recognize that serious chronic and acute illnesses and disorders have an impact on family members of patients, and these family members also have needs for services and supports; and

Whereas, It will be beneficial for patients and their family members to come together one day each year not to discuss their differences, but to share common experiences in living with chronic and acute illnesses and disorders and determine how these shared experiences can unite citizens of the State for the benefit of all; now, therefore,

Be It Resolved by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

     1.    May 20 of each year is designated as "All Health Causes Day" in New Jersey in order to enable patients with chronic and acute illnesses and disorders and their family members to come together not to discuss their differences, but to share common experiences in living with chronic and acute illnesses and disorders and determine how these shared experiences can unite citizens of the State for the benefit of all.

     2.    The Governor shall annually issue a proclamation calling upon public officials and citizens of this State to observe "All Health Causes Day" with appropriate activities and programs.

     3.    This joint resolution shall take effect immediately.
