SYNOPSIS

     Authorizes military service members, spouses, and dependents with out-of-state domicile to operate motor vehicles in New Jersey.

An Act concerning authorization to operate motor vehicles in New Jersey and supplementing Title 39 of the Revised Statutes.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    Notwithstanding the provisions of any other law, rule, or regulation to the contrary, a member of the Armed Forces of the United States who is not domiciled in this State, the member's spouse, and any of the member's dependents may operate a motor vehicle on the public roadways of this State, provided that:

     a.     the person possesses a driver's license issued by the person's state of domicile;  and

     b.    the license authorizes the person to operate the same class of vehicle in the person's state of domicile that the person operates in this State.

 

     2.    This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill authorizes a member of the Armed Force of the United States who is not domiciled in New Jersey, along with the member's spouse and dependents, to operate a motor vehicle on the public roadways of this State without needing to obtain a driver's license in New Jersey if certain other conditions apply.
