SYNOPSIS

     Permits certain firefighter training courses to be taken online; requires tests for courses to be taken in person.

An Act concerning firefighter training courses and supplementing Title 52 of the Revised Statutes.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    a.     A person shall be permitted to take the courses required to obtain a firefighter 1 certification, as prescribed by the director, in an online format.  This provision shall not apply to any practical courses including, but not limited to, the following:

     (1)   Turnout Gear & SCBA Orientation Practical;

     (2)   Forcible Entry Practical;

     (3)   Vent Practical;

     (4)   Rope and Knot Lecture & Practical;

     (5)   Rope and Knot Practical 2;

     (6)   Mask Confidence Practical;

     (7)   Hose Practical 1;

     (8)   Hose Practical 2;

     (9)   Hose Practical 3;

     (10) Hose Practical 4;

     (11) Fire Attack Practical 1;

     (12) Fire Attack Practical 2;

     (13) Fire Attack Practical 3;

     (14) Sprinkler & Standpipe Practical;

     (15) Portable Extinguisher Lecture & Practical;

     (16) Motor Vehicle Fire Practical;

     (17) Ladder 1;

     (18) Ladder 2;

     (19) Ladder 3;

     (20) JPR Review;

     (21) Search & Rescue Practical 1 Orientation;

     (22) Search & Rescue Practical 2 Cold Search;

     (23) Search & Rescue Practical 3 Hot Search;

     (24) Search with TIC & Lifeline; and

     (25) Flashover.

     b.    A person shall 1[be required to]1 take all tests for the courses required to obtain a firefighter 1 certification, as prescribed by the director, in person regardless of whether the courses are taken in person or in an online format.

     c.     As used in this act, "director" means the Director of the Division of Fire Safety in the Department of Community Affairs.

 

     2.    This act shall take effect on the first day of the seventh month after enactment, but the Commissioner of Community Affairs may take any administrative action in advance of the effective date as may be necessary.
