An Act concerning childbirth and supplementing Title 26 of the Revised Statutes.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    An acute care general hospital licensed pursuant to P.L.1971, c.136 (C.26:2H-1 et seq.) shall permit a pregnant woman to have at least one individual to accompany the woman during the period of labor and delivery in the room of the hospital where the woman gives birth to her child.

 

     2.    The Commissioner of Health shall adopt rules and regulations, in accordance with the "Administrative Procedure Act," P.L.1968, c.410 (C.52:14B-1 et seq.), as are necessary to effectuate the provisions of this act 1, including rules and regulations as to restrictions an acute care general hospital may place on individuals accompanying pregnant women during the period of labor and delivery as provided in section 1 of this act1.

 

     3.    This act shall take effect immediately.
