     Requires BPU to establish procedures allowing electric power and gas supplier customers to switch energy suppliers.

An Act concerning third-party electric power and gas supplier customer contracts, and supplementing P.L.1999, c.23.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    1[The Board of Public Utilities shall establish procedures to ensure that within 30 calendar days of a customer's request, a customer shall be permitted to switch electric generation service from an electric power supplier to a basic generation service provider, or switch gas supply service from a gas supplier to a basic gas supply service.] a. A customer shall be permitted to switch between an electric power supplier and a basic generation service provider, between electric power suppliers, between a gas supplier and a gas public utility, or between gas suppliers no later than the 30th day following the date an electric public utility or a gas public utility is notified of the customer's request by an electric power supplier or a gas supplier, as determined by the board.

     b. As used in this section:

     "Basic generation service provider," "board," "electric power supplier," "electric public utility," "gas public utility," and "gas supplier" shall have the same meaning as provided in section 3 of P.L.1999, c.23 (C.48:3-51).1

 

     2.    This act shall take effect on the 60th day after the date of enactment and shall apply to contracts formed or renewed on or after the effective date of this act.
