SYNOPSIS
Makes it crime of the fourth degree to apply for employment or volunteer position with public entity or public official if person has purpose to deceive or injure.

An Act concerning certain intentions in seeking public employment and supplementing Title 2C of the New Jersey Statutes.
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. a. A person commits a crime of the fourth degree if he applies to a public entity or a public official for employment, a volunteer position, or a paid or unpaid internship, with purpose to deceive or injure the public official or public entity or a person connected with the public official or public entity.
b. This act shall not apply to activity by law enforcement conducted as part of an investigation.
c. As used in this act:
"Public entity" means the State, any county, municipality, district, public authority, public agency and any other political subdivision or public body in the State.
"Public official" means a person elected or appointed to a public office in the State, including any person elected or appointed in the State to a Federal public office.
2. This act shall take effect immediately.
STATEMENT
This bill would make it a crime of the fourth degree to apply to a public entity or a public official for employment, a volunteer position, or a paid or unpaid internship with purpose to deceive or injure the public official or public entity or a person connected with the public official or public entity.
The bill would not apply to activity by law enforcement conducted as part of an investigation.
The bill defines "public entity" as the State, any county, municipality, district, public authority, public agency and any other political subdivision or public body in the State. "Public official" is defined in the bill as a person elected or appointed to a public office in the State, including any person elected or appointed in the State to a Federal public office.
