SYNOPSIS
Provides mandatory forfeiture of PFRS retirement benefits for police officer convicted of any crime.

An Act concerning the forfeiture of retirement benefits by certain police officer members of the Police and Firemen's Retirement System and supplementing P.L.1995, c.408 (C.43:1-3 et seq.).
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. Notwithstanding the provisions of section 1 of P.L.1995, c.408 (C.43:1-3) and section 2 of P.L.2007, c.49 (C.43:1-3.1), a policeman, as defined in paragraph (a) of subsection (2) of section 1 of P.L.1944, c.255 (C.43:16A-1), who is convicted of any crime, or of a substantially similar offense under the laws of another state or the United States which would have been such a crime under the laws of this State, committed on or after the effective date of P.L. , c. (C. ) (pending before the Legislature as this bill), shall forfeit all of the pension or retirement benefit earned as a member of the Police and Firemen's Retirement System, established pursuant to P.L.1944, c.255 (C.43:16A-1 et seq.).
2. This act shall take effect on the 30th day after the date of enactment.
STATEMENT
This bill imposes mandatory forfeiture of pension and retirement benefits for a police officer member of the Police and Firemen's Retirement System who is convicted of any crime. The provisions of the bill will apply to crimes committed on or after the 30th day after enactment.
