SYNOPSIS

     Requires NJ Division of Travel and Tourism prepare report on State travel and tourism industry recovery since Superstorm Sandy.

An Act requiring the New Jersey Division of Travel and Tourism to prepare a report on the recovery of the State's travel and tourism industry since Superstorm Sandy. 

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    a.  The Executive Director of the Division of Travel and Tourism, or a designee, shall prepare a report on the recovery of the New Jersey travel and tourism industry since Superstorm Sandy, and shall complete and submit a copy of the report to the Legislature, pursuant to section 2 of P.L.1991, c.164 (C.52:14-19.1), within  one year after the effective date of this act.    

     The report shall focus on: 

     (1)   beach tourism including, but not limited to, demand for accommodations, boardwalk visitors, and the local food service industry;

     (2)   economic growth;

     (3)   sustainability of the travel and tourism industry; and

     (4)   policy recommendations. 

     b.    In addition to the written report submitted pursuant to subsection a. of this section, the Executive Director of the Division of Travel and Tourism, or a designee, may submit proposals for legislation that strengthen the laws of this State regarding the travel and tourism industry.

 

     2.    This act shall take effect immediately, and shall expire upon submission of the report to the Legislature. 

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill requires the Executive Director of the Division of Travel and Tourism to prepare a report on the recovery of the New Jersey travel and tourism industry since Superstorm Sandy.  The report is to focus on beach tourism, economic growth, the sustainability of the travel and tourism industry, and policy recommendations.  The bill requires the executive director to submit a copy of the completed report to the Legislature no later than one year after the bill's effective date.

      In addition, the bill permits the executive director to submit proposals for legislation that strengthens the laws of the State regarding the travel and tourism industry.
