STATEMENT

This bill would require the Division of Travel and Tourism and the New Jersey Historical Commission, both in the Department of State, to provide information about volunteer opportunities on their respective Internet websites.  The bill would also require the division and the commission to coordinate and collaborate with the Governor's Office of Volunteerism whenever possible.

The commission and the division, through their websites, would: provide an opportunity for historical and history destinations, programs, societies, and venues, including nonprofit organizations, and for travel and tourism destinations, organizations, programs, and venues, including nonprofit organizations and destination marketing organizations, to solicit volunteers, and provide to interested persons a directory or resource to search for volunteer opportunities.

New Jersey's 1.5 million volunteers make a difference in communities Statewide through 170 million hours of service each year, by protecting and beautifying the environment, sustaining the arts and art history, supporting the work of cultural institutions, and standing ready to assist many other organizations and efforts in countless ways.  This bill would help connect volunteers with organizations needing volunteers, which would be to the benefit of all.
