METHODOLOGY:
This bill requires schools to make at least one free or reduced cost meal available to children who meet federal eligibility guidelines. To pay for this requirement, the Department of Education is required to request a state appropriation to provide a free breakfast to students eligible for reduced cost meals. In order to estimate the expenditures required of the Department to provide a free breakfast to eligible students each school day, the following assumptions were made:
Fiscal Year | Impact To State Expenditures |
FY 2020 | (7,618 students X $0.27 X 180 days) = $370,235 |
FY 2021 | (7,846 students X $0.27 X 180 days) = $381,315 |
FY 2022 | (8,082 students X $0.27 X 180 days) = $392,785 |
FY 2023 | (8,324 students X $0.27 X 180 days) = $404,546 |
