A JOINT RESOLUTION honoring the life and memory of robert w. dalrymple, former member of the general assembly.

Whereas, Robert W. Dalrymple was born June 16, 1922, in Lee County to Clyde and Eunice Dalrymple; and

Whereas, Robert W. Dalrymple graduated from North Carolina State College (North Carolina State University); and

Whereas, Robert W. Dalrymple served in the United States Marines Corps, where he fought in the Pacific Theater and received a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart; and

Whereas, after serving in the military, Robert W. Dalrymple returned to Lee County, where he ran the family farm; and

Whereas, Robert W. Dalrymple served with honor and distinction in the General Assembly as a member of the House of Representatives for two terms between 1949 and 1952; and

Whereas, Robert W. Dalrymple served his community as a member and chair of the Lee County Board of Education for over 20 years, a soil and water conservation district supervisor, a trustee at Central Carolina Community College, and a charter member of the Broadway Lion's Club; and

Whereas, Robert W. Dalrymple was a lifelong member of Salem Presbyterian Church, where he served as Clerk of the Session for 50 years and was awarded Elder Emeritus; and

Whereas, Robert W. Dalrymple was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Nannie Lou McFarland Dalrymple; and

Whereas, Robert W. Dalrymple died on March 12, 2017, at the age of 94; and

Whereas, Robert W. Dalrymple is survived by two children and five grandchildren; and

Whereas, Robert W. Dalrymple was a caring and remarkable man, who enriched the lives of many and left an outstanding legacy of commitment to his family and community; Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

SECTION 1.  The General Assembly honors the memory of Robert W. Dalrymple and expresses its appreciation for the service that he rendered his community, State, and nation.

SECTION 2.  The General Assembly extends its deepest sympathy to the family of Robert W. Dalrymple for the loss of a beloved family member.

SECTION 3.  The Secretary of State shall transmit a certified copy of this resolution to the family of Robert W. Dalrymple.

SECTION 4.  This resolution is effective upon ratification.
