A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT authorizing local boards of education to adopt consolidated calendars.
The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
SECTION 1. G.S. 115C‑84.2 is amended by adding a new subsection to read:
"(d1) Consolidated Calendar. – Notwithstanding subsections (a) and (d) of this section, a local board of education may elect to save money by consolidating the school calendar. The consolidated calendar shall include a minimum of 180 days or 1,000 hours of instruction covering at least nine calendar months.
If a local board of education complies with this subsection by scheduling 1,000 hours of instruction on less than 180 days, teachers employed for a 10‑month term are deemed to have been employed for 180 instructional days."
SECTION 2. This act is effective when it becomes law.
