A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE OF MR. TERRANCE M. (TERRY) WRAY, RESPECTED JACKSON AND RANKIN COUNTY BUSINESS AND COMMUNITY LEADER.

     WHEREAS, Mr. Terrance Mitchell Wray, respected leader in the Jackson and Rankin County business and civic community, passed away on February 9, 2011; and

     WHEREAS, Terrance Mitchell Wray was born on November 29, 1955, to Betty Ann Wray in Nashville, Tennessee.  Terry attended elementary school in Chapel Hill, Tennessee, and graduated from Forrest High School in 1973.  He traveled to Florence, Alabama, where he attended the University of North Alabama.  Upon graduation, he entered the workforce residing in Alabama then Louisiana before establishing roots in the Metro Jackson area; and

     WHEREAS, Terry enjoyed over 20 years in the automotive industry working in local dealerships such as East Ford, Hallmark Toyota, East Holman Jaguar and Saab, Watson Quality Ford, and Magee Ford climbing the career ladder as salesperson, Finance Manager, and General Manager.  In 2000, Terry joined his wife, Rita, in Wray Enterprises, Inc., where they built a multisector enterprise; and

     WHEREAS, a community leader, Terry was active in the business, civic, and social arenas.  His business affiliations included leadership roles in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.,  Alpha Epsilon Lambda Chapter, past President; St. Dominic Health Services, Inc., Advisory Board, past President; 100 Black Men of America, Inc., Jackson Chapter, past Vice President; Rankin County Rotary Club, President, and YMCA - Reservoir Branch, past President.  He also enjoyed membership on the Board of Directors of Greater Jackson Arts Council, the Rankin County Republican Executive Committee, the Knights of Columbus, the Knights of Peter Claver, as well as active participation as usher, lector, and community leader at St. Paul Catholic Church; and

     WHEREAS, Terrance was married to his college sweetheart and life partner Rita Wray for 34 years.  They were blessed with sons, Terrance Mitchell and Torrance Michael, and daughter, Tamika Marchelle.  He will be remembered most for his engaging personality; and

     WHEREAS, it is with sadness that we note the passing of this individual who was a vital member of the civic and charitable community in the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby mourn the passing and commend the life of Terrance M. (Terry) Wray and extend the sympathy of the Senate to his surviving family.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the surviving family of Terry Wray and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
