A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE GERMANTOWN HIGH SCHOOL "LADY MAVERICKS" GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH JAMIE GLASGOW FOR WINNING THEIR FIRST MHSAA 6A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, behind the play of their McDonald's All-American, Madison Booker, Germantown High School, used a big second quarter to race past Tupelo 64-43 to claim the MHSAA Girls Class 6A State Championship on March 4, 2023, at the Mississippi Coliseum; and
WHEREAS, it's the Lady Mavericks' (29-2) first State Title and the first Championship for Germantown in the school's 12-year history; and
WHEREAS, "I've been here at Germantown since the school's been open, said Head Coach Jamie Glasgow. "From the first year we started to this year, we've come a long way. This is a perfect ending to this year and Madison's career and our seniors. They've put in a lot of hours and hard work, and I'm just so happy for them and proud of them"; and
WHEREAS, it was Madison Booker's third trip to the "Big House" and she wasn't leaving anything to chance. After a back-and-forth first quarter that ended with Germantown holding a 13-12 lead, the Lady Mavericks went on a 11-0 run midway through the second quarter to extend their lead to 27-14. They led it 31-19 at the half. The Lady Mavericks sealed the game with a 9-0 run late in the third quarter to take a commanding 48-27 lead; and
WHEREAS, Madison Booker, a Texas signee, finished with a double-double, with a game-high 26 points, and 12 rebounds to lead Germantown and was named the game's Most Valuable Player. Micaiah Satcher added 13 points for Germantown, while Raegan Jordan chipped in 10 points for the Lady Mavericks. Germantown had key players step up and make big plays. They had been close the last four years; and
WHEREAS, the 2022-2023 Germantown Girls Basketball "Lady Mavericks" Championship Team Roster: Lily Bittle, Deandrea McMillian, Jer'Mya Branson, Julia Glasgow, Ayla Benson, Alana Rouser, Micaiah Satcher, Madisyn Johnson, Raegan Jordan, Sydney Wilder, Mariah Rogers, Bella Williams, Madison Booker and Charlie Gamberine; and Head Coach Jamie Glasgow; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize these student athletes whose first-ever State Championship has brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Germantown High School "Lady Mavericks" Girls Basketball Team and Head Coach Jamie Glasgow for winning their first MHSAA 6A State Championship, and extend to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors our best wishes for future success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Head Coach Jamie Glasgow and Germantown Principal Wesley Quick for the team, forwarded to the Madison County School Board, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
