A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING RICHARD H. MCNEEL OF JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI, AS THE 2020 MISSISSIPPI STATE UNIVERSITY ALUMNUS OF THE YEAR FOR THE COLLEGE OF ARCHITECTURE, ART AND DESIGN, AND EXTENDING THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MISSISSIPPI SENATE.
WHEREAS, we join the Mississippi State University faculty and alumni leaders from around the nation in recognizing distinguished alumni at the Annual Leadership Conference held on February 8, 2020; and
WHEREAS, the 2020 Mississippi State University Alumni of the Year group included Richard H. McNeel of Jackson, Mississippi, who was honored by the College of Architecture, Art and Design for excellence; and
WHEREAS, Richard H. McNeel has spent four decades in the field of architecture where he is licensed by the American Institute of Architects; and
WHEREAS, as President of Jackson-based JBHM Architecture, he has been named a Top Mississippi CEO by the Mississippi Business Journal. He is also the first Mississippi architect to receive the highest honor by the National Council of Architectural Registration Board. The President's Medal for Distinguished Service recognizes McNeel's career dedication to protecting public health, safety and welfare; and
WHEREAS, a lifelong proponent of quality education, training and testing for architects, McNeel has helped develop the national architect's exam for 13 years; and
WHEREAS, he actively participates in his profession as a juror, adjunct professor, and an advisor to the Mississippi State University College of Architecture, Art and Design from which he earned a 1979 Bachelor of Arts Degree in Architecture and was selected a 1990 Alumni Fellow; and
WHEREAS, McNeel served the college's School of Architecture Advisory Council for many years and currently chairs the group. He has also served multiple terms on the MSU Foundation Board; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we join in this special recognition of a Mississippi architect and community leader whose contributions are an example to his profession and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby recognize Richard H. McNeel of Jackson, Mississippi, as the 2020 Mississippi State University Alumnus of the Year for the College of Architecture, Art and Design, and extend the congratulations of the Senate and our best wishes to Richard and his family.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Richard McNeel, forwarded to the Mississippi State University Alumni Association and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
