A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING OLE MISS BASKETBALL FORWARD RAHIM LOCKHART UPON HIS INDUCTION INTO THE 2013 ALLSTATE SEC BASKETBALL LEGENDS PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, Ole Miss Basketball Forward Rahim Lockhart was recognized at the SEC Tournament as one of the 2013 Allstate SEC Basketball Legends at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee; and
WHEREAS, "The Allstate SEC Basketball Legends Program allows us to honor our past and show everyone why the SEC is one of the nation's premier basketball conferences," said SEC Commissioner Mike Slive; and
WHEREAS, Rahim Lockhart played Forward from 1997-1998 and 2000-2001. One of the most popular basketball players ever at Ole Miss, Rahim Lockhart completed his collegiate career in 2001 when he was a third-team All-America selection, while also earning NABC All-District 4, USBWA All-District 6, All-SEC and SEC All-Tournament Team honors. A member of the winningest senior class in Ole Miss history (88 wins), Lockhart scored 1,160 points, pulled down 780 rebounds and is the school's all-time field goal percentage leader at 56.1%; and
WHEREAS, a two-time member of the SEC Good Works Team, he played in four-straight postseasons (1998, 1999, 2001 NCAA; 2000 NIT) and led the 2000-2001 Rebels to a school-record 27 victories and the program's first NCAA Tournament "Sweet 16" appearance. Lockhart, a native of Mendenhall, Mississippi, who worked in the Mississippi Attorney General's office before joining the coaching ranks, currently serves as Head Coach for Madison Central High School, where the Jaguars finished as the North State Champions, the Mississippi 6A runner-up, ranked as the No. 5 Team in the Super 10, and the second-ranked team in 6A; and
WHEREAS, other members of the 2013 class include: Wimp Sanderson, Alabama; Jerry Carlton, Arkansas; Ronnie Battle, Auburn; Bill Koss, Florida; Tim Bassett, Georgia; Jamal Mashburn, Kentucky; Geert Hammink, LSU; Horatio Webster, Mississippi State; Norm Stewart, Missouri; Eddie Fogler, South Carolina; Len Kosmalski, Tennessee; John Beasley, Texas A&M; and Mike Rhoades, Vanderbilt; and
WHEREAS, each SEC Basketball Legend was recognized at halftime of his institution's first game at the SEC Tournament; and
WHEREAS, this marks the 15th year of the SEC Basketball Legends Program; and it is with great pride that we commend this former university athlete who brought honor to his university, his community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize Ole Miss Basketball Forward Rahim Lockhart upon his induction into the 2013 Allstate Southeastern Conference (SEC) Basketball Legends Program at the SEC Tournament in Nashville, Tennessee, on March 22, 2013, and extend our best wishes to Rahim and his family on this auspicious occasion.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Rahim Lockhart, forwarded to the Chancellor of the University of Mississippi and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
