A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE LOUISVILLE HIGH SCHOOL "WILDCATS" FOOTBALL TEAM AND COACH M.C. MILLER FOR WINNING THEIR 9TH STATE CLASS 4A CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, Louisville High School Football Coach M.C. Miller has been threatening to retire, but after the December 1, 2018, Championship Game, he might be ready for more.  Miller's Wildcats came from behind to defeat Poplarville, 25-20, and capture Louisville's ninth Class 4A State Title at M.M. Roberts Stadium in Hattiesburg, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, Louisville has now won all nine State Titles for which it has played going back to 1985.  Miller inherited a solid program and has kept it rolling.  This was his second championship at Louisville, with the other coming in 2013; and

     WHEREAS, the Wildcats 15-1 had to win a dog fight to get this second Championship.  Poplarville 13-2, which had rattled off 13 straight wins, outgained Louisville 96 yards to 1 and built a 14-0 lead in the final quarter.  Louisville answered with an 80-yard touchdown drive, capped by Deonte Yarbrough's 9-yard pass to Alvius Haynes that cut the Poplarville lead to 14-6 at the half.  After taking the opening kickoff to start the second half, the Wildcats went right back down the field and scored on Kevon Jackson's 4-yard scoring run that cut Poplarville's lead 14-12.  Poplarville struck back with a 44-yard touchdown run to extend the margin to 20-12.  Louisville answered with Jackson's second score of the afternoon on a 14-yard run to trail 20-18 heading into the final quarter.  With a little more than 2:30 left in regulation, Louisville Defensive Back Marcus Glenn ripped the ball from the arms of Poplarville Tailback and Defensive End Rankevious Johnson fell on it.  When it was over, Coach Miller got his final Gatorade bath; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Louisville High School "Wildcats" Football Team and Coach M.C. Miller for winning their 9th Class 4A State Championship, and extend to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors our best withes for future success.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach M.C. Miller for the team, forwarded to Louisville High School Principal Hilute Hudson, and the Winston County Board of Education, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
