A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE AND MOURNING THE LOSS OF HOLLY SPRINGS' ASSISTANT POLICE CHIEF PATRICIA SELMAN.
WHEREAS, Holly Springs' Assistant Chief of Police and respected career law enforcement professional Patricia Ann Davis Selman, 55, passed away on April 12, 2011; and
WHEREAS, Selman began a career in law enforcement on May 7, 1988, with the Marshall County Sheriff's Department, serving under Sheriffs Jimmye Dale Green and Ernest Cunningham. She became a Police Officer with the City of Holly Springs on February 20, 1996, where she advanced to Captain and then to Assistant Chief under the administration of Chief Robert Burby on October 7, 2003. She served as Interim Police Chief twice for the city, including from June 15, 2004, until September 5, 2006; and
WHEREAS, she is remembered for her leadership and dedication to law enforcement, to the community's children and as a mother; and
WHEREAS, Patricia was a member of Christ Temple Church of God in Christ, a church usher, choir member, Assistant Sunday School Teacher, President of Youth Ushers, LEAPS, National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives, Mississippi Gang Association, Mississippi Association of Women and Law Enforcement, and a former member of the Mississippi Association of Chiefs of Police; and
WHEREAS, Holly Springs' Mayor André DeBerry said, "Selman was an outstanding person who will be missed greatly by the community"; and
WHEREAS, Patricia leaves to cherish her memory three children: Patrice Woods, April Selman and Antonious "Tony" Selman; her mother, Arsie Nell Hoyle; four sisters: Paula Clark, Rosita Carter, Elaine Woodson and Phyllis Davis; a brother, Lee Henry Pegues; and two grandchildren: Brittany Selman and Tyler Woods; and
WHEREAS, it is with sadness that we note the passing of this respected law enforcement professional:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That do hereby commend the life and mourn the loss of Holly Springs' Assistant Police Chief Patricia Selman, and extend our sympathy on her passing.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the surviving family of Patricia Selman, forwarded to the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of Holly Springs, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
