Senate Bill 3047

AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF RANKIN COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, TO ERECT AND DISPLAY SPECIALLY DESIGNED STREET SIGNS NEAR THE INTERSECTION OF MISSISSIPPI HIGHWAYS 25 AND 43 WELCOMING INDIVIDUALS TO SANDHILL, MISSISSIPPI, AND ACKNOWLEDGING TORI BOWIE AS THE WINNER OF AN OLYMPIC GOLD MEDAL AT THE 2016 SUMMER OLYMPICS GAMES HELD IN RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  (1)  The Board of Supervisors of Rankin County, Mississippi, is authorized, in its discretion, to erect and display in the public right-of-way on Mississippi Highway 25, near the northbound and southbound approaches to the intersection of Mississippi Highway 25 and Mississippi Highway 43 the following:

          (a)  Specially-designed street signs welcoming individuals to Sandhill, Mississippi; and

          (b)  Specially designed street signs that acknowledge Tori Bowie as the winner of an Olympic Gold Medal at the 2016 Summer Olympic Games held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

     (2)  The signs authorized by subsections (1)(a) and (b) of this act shall be:

          (a)  Mounted one above the other and on a single mounting structure;

          (b)  Not less than twenty-five (25) square feet and not more than forty (40) square feet in total surface area;

          (c)  Maintained by Rankin County; and

          (d)  Funded by Rankin County.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
