House Resolution 95

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE KOSSUTH HIGH SCHOOL LADY AGGIES BASKETBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH ANGIE MALONE FOR WINNING KOSSUTH HIGH SCHOOL'S FIRST MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION (MHSAA) CLASS 3A GIRLS STATE BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, the Kossuth High School Lady Aggies Basketball Team finished the 2018-2019 season with their first girls state title in the school's history, and the first girls state championship in Alcorn County history; and

WHEREAS, for many years Kossuth has worked toward this accomplishment, and even made the championship game in 1993, but Kossuth High School had only dreamed of a state title for its Lady Aggies Basketball Team until now; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Aggies' overall statistics were praiseworthy as they finished with an overall record of 25-7, beating Belmont High School in the high stakes finale; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Aggies rallied from a 13-point fourth quarter deficit to make history as they fought their way back for a 48-44 triumph over Belmont at the Mississippi Coliseum; and

WHEREAS, with the state championship trophy in hand, Coach Malone proclaimed, "This team just has the 'it' factor..we have a little of everything. We came here in '93 and got beat but this time we knew we had a real chance to win. I'm just so proud of the way my girls responded after falling behind in the third quarter."; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Aggies have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Angie Malone, who has broadened the Lady Aggies' knowledge of the game, refined their skills in execution and provided stellar mentorship on and off the court; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend the superb athletic accomplishments of Mississippi student-athletes, especially those such as the Kossuth High School Lady Aggies Basketball Team, whose excellence on the basketball court brings great honor to their school, the community and our state:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Kossuth High School Lady Aggies Basketball Team and Head Coach Angie Malone for winning Kossuth High School's first MHSAA Class 3A Girls State Basketball Championship.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Kossuth High School, Head Coach Angie Malone and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
