A RESOLUTION HONORING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF MR. CURTIS STARLING JORDAN WHITLEY, AND EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS UPON HIS PASSING.

     WHEREAS, it is written in Ecclesiastes 3:1 that "To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under the Heaven," and as such, on Friday, March 19, 2021, the immaculate author and finisher of our soul's destiny summoned the mortal presence of dearly beloved, Mr. Curtis Starling Jordan Whitley, to eternal rest, rendering great sorrow and loss to his family and friends; and

     WHEREAS, born on September 19, 1984, to Mrs. Onetta Starling Whitley and Mr. Dexter Duane Whitley, Mr. Whitley was baptized at New Hope Baptist Church on November 17, 1996; and

     WHEREAS, in his formative years, Mr. Whitley attended New Hope Christian School, graduated from Callaway High School in 2002, and matriculated at both Tougaloo College and Belhaven University; and

     WHEREAS, dedicated to public service, Mr. Whitley served on the support staff of several county and state government offices during his administrative career, most recently as Emergency Management Officer at the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency; and

     WHEREAS, outside of working in county and state government, Mr. Whitley's great passion for music played an important part in his life, and was the driving force behind his second profession in the entertainment industry; and

     WHEREAS, after a stint as a musical performer, Mr. Whitley applied his phenomenal musical talents to a career as a DJ and sound and lighting engineer, entertaining and captivating thousands who patronized the music and entertainment scene in Jackson, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, a genuine and distinguished man, Mr. Whitley's exceptional devotion to his family and to his community will always be remembered, and precious memories of time spent with him will hopefully continue to provide warmth, peace and comfort to his loved ones; and

     WHEREAS, though he has traversed the river of life to reunite with those who answered God's summons to life eternal and now beckon his arrival to the celestial shores of Heaven's grandeur, such as his beloved sister, Lela Marian Celeste Whitley, the legacy of Mr. Whitley's indelible imprint upon our lives will continue to refresh the hearts and fond memories of his loved ones, including his devoted parents, Mrs. Onetta Starling Whitley and Mr. Dexter Duane Whitley; loving brother, Dexter Jordan Starling Whitley; sister, Tameka Woodson; cherished son, Caleb Starling Jordan Whitley; Caleb's mother, Faith Barnes; and a host of extended family members and dear friends; and

     WHEREAS, as his life touched each and every person whom he encountered, Mr. Whitley's abundant generosity and kindness is a significant part of his extraordinary legacy, along with his example of the manifestation of love and charity that God calls us all to perform; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Whitley will forever be loved, cherished and missed by all who knew him, and since it is written in

2 Corinthians 5:8, that to be "absent from the body is to be present with the Lord," his family and friends can find peace and comfort during this difficult time; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend the lives of outstanding Mississippians, especially those such as Mr. Whitley, who certainly inspired everyone he met and whose life's light illuminated the path of hope for all he encountered along his earthly sojourn:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby mourn the loss and commemorate the life and legacy of Mr. Curtis Starling Jordan Whitley, and express sincere and deepest sympathy to his family and friends upon his passing.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Mr. Curtis Starling Jordan Whitley and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
