A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE LAKE HIGH SCHOOL LADY HORNETS SLOW-PITCH SOFTBALL TEAM UPON WINNING THE 2019 MHSAA CLASS I STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, the Lake High School Lady Hornets Slow-pitch Softball Team capped off its remarkable 31-3 season with a 2-5, 9-2 and 13-6 come-from-behind series win over the Lady Hilltoppers of Houston High School to take home the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class I State Championship for the first time in school history; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Hornets' spot in the championship game was never in doubt in the semifinal series, with a convincing sweep of Southeast Lauderdale 19-3 and 21-7 in the semifinals to advance to the state championship in Madison; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Hornets quickly knew they could not take Houston for granted, and even though Houston jumped out to a 1-0 series lead after winning the opener, the Lady Hornets took control with nine runs in the second game and 13 runs in the rubber match and the rest is history; and
WHEREAS, although there were several standout individual performances over the course of the season, the championship win was a culmination of hard work and team effort, with every player knowing their role and executing it perfectly; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Hornets have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Jake Loper, who has broadened their knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend the superb accomplishments of Mississippi's student-athletes, especially those such as the Lady Hornets, whose excellence on and off the field brings honor to their school, their families and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Lake High School Lady Hornets Slow-pitch Softball Team upon winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class I State Championship and extend best wishes to the team and coaches for continued success in all of their future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Head Coach Jake Loper on behalf of the team and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
