A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING OCTOBER 2 OF EACH YEAR, AS "MISSISSIPPI HUGS AND KISSES DAY FOR OLDER CITIZENS."

     WHEREAS, October 2, of each year shall be known as "Mississippi Hugs and Kisses Day for Older Citizens"; and

     WHEREAS, senior citizens are valued members of our society who have worked tirelessly in various ways to improve our country; and

     WHEREAS, throughout history, older citizens have achieved much for our families, our communities, and our country; and

     WHEREAS, with improved health care, older citizens are living longer, have increased productivity in later years and often start new hobbies and careers; and

     WHEREAS, most older citizens are grandparents, great-grandparents and great-great-grandparents; and

     WHEREAS, some older citizens reside in assisted living facilities and long-term care facilities; and

     WHEREAS, hugs and kisses are a positive way to express love and appreciation for any person, especially for older citizens; and

     WHEREAS, with this recognition, we owe older citizens a day to express our thanks by giving hugs and kisses as a way to show we "love" them; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to encourage others to show appreciation for citizens who have been important in their lives and to society:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby designate October 2, of each year as "Mississippi Hugs and Kisses Day for Older Citizens."

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
