A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE HERNANDO HIGH SCHOOL LADY TIGERS FAST-PITCH SOFTBALL TEAM UPON WINNING THE 2021 MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION (MHSAA) CLASS 6A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, the Hernando High School Lady Tigers Fast-pitch Softball Team capped off its remarkable 35-3 season with a 2-1, 2-4 and 4-0 series win over the Lady Warriors of Oak Grove High School to take home the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 6A State Championship; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Tigers' spot in the championship game was never in doubt in the semifinal series, with convincing sweeps of DeSoto Central 10-0 and 8-4 and Lewisburg 3-1 and 5-1 in the semifinals to advance to the state championship; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Tigers quickly knew they could not take Oak Grove for granted, and even though Oak Grove prevailed on day two of championship play in runs batted in and led after winning the opener, the Lady Tigers regained their composure on day three to capitalize on their initial day one win, to seal their fate as champions with four runs; and
WHEREAS, although there were several standout individual performances over the course of the season, the championship win was a culmination of hard work and team effort, with every player knowing their role and executing it perfectly; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Tigers Softball Team roster consists of: Seniors, Jaclyn Carter, Emme Muizers and Macey Everett; Juniors, Janna Shaw, Julia Shaw, Rylee Eyster, Avery Wolfe, Kelsey Baker and Ally Callahan; Sophomores, Avery Taylor and Katie White; Freshman, Carleigh Calarco, Kate Forrest Grehan, Kaitlyn O'Neal and Ally Agner; Eighth Graders, Olivia Higginbotham, Kaylin Lynch, Rachel Etheridge and Neely Grantham; Seventh Graders, Katelyn Kirkpatrick, Amberlee Holley, Callie Desmond and Kylee Garcia; Managers, Blake Simon, Zada Brewer and Graycin Higginbotham; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Tigers have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Nicki Whitten, and Assistant Coaches Reagan Holdiness and Savannah McCann, who have broadened their knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend the superb accomplishments of Mississippi's student-athletes, especially those such as the Lady Tigers, whose excellence on and off the field brings honor to their school, their families and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Hernando High School Lady Tigers Fast-pitch Softball Team upon winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 6A State Championship, and extend best wishes to the team and coaches for continued success in all of their future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Hernando High School Lady Tigers Fast-pitch Softball Team, and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
