A RESOLUTION COMMENDING PERCY "MASTER P" MILLER FOR RAISING AWARENESS OF HEALTHY INITIATIVES, YOUTH EDUCATION AND POSITIVE DECISION-MAKING IN THE MISSISSIPPI DELTA IN COLLABORATION WITH THE URBAN BORN ORGANIZATION AND FIRST LADY MICHELLE OBAMA'S "LET'S MOVE" CAMPAIGN.

     WHEREAS, Percy "Master P" Miller is committed to the health, education and welfare of America's youth, including the youth of the Mississippi Delta; and

     WHEREAS, on August 6-7, 2010, kids ages 7-16 learned life skills and the importance of education in addition to basketball defensive and offensive skills from professional athletes and life coaches, including Percy Miller and Johnel Langerston, at the Urban Born Game of Life Basketball Camp held in the Mississippi Delta; and

     WHEREAS, utilizing successful leaders like Percy Miller and Johnel Langerston to inspire youth, Urban Born is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with the purpose of creating a paradigm shift in urban communities nationwide through intense cause-and-effect programs, interactive multimedia content, seminars and events for middle-school-age students to help them make better life choices, instill family values, desire higher education, avoid crime, improve their lives, be responsible citizens and contribute to their community; and

     WHEREAS, concerned especially about the health of our young people in this country, through the "It's Time Kids" program, Percy Miller alongside his son, Romeo Miller, and daughter, Cymphonique Miller, is helping First Lady Michelle Obama with her "Let's Move" campaign aimed at solving the challenge of childhood obesity so that children born today will reach adulthood at a healthy weight; and

     WHEREAS, a native of New Orleans, Louisiana, Percy Miller is an American businessman, entertainer and entrepreneur, who is the founder of Better Black Television (BBTV) and P. Miller Enterprises, an entertainment and financial conglomerate; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend such a remarkable individual as Percy Miller, who seeks to increase the achievement of higher education within low-income families and to improve the health and welfare of the youth of the State of Mississippi, who are its future:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Percy "Master P" Miller for raising awareness of healthy initiatives and positive decision-making in the Mississippi Delta in collaboration with the Urban Born organization, the "It's Time Kids" program and the "Let's Move" campaign, and express sincere wishes for continued success in all of his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Percy Miller, Urban Born and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
