A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE RAYMOND HIGH SCHOOL "RANGERS" BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH TONY TADLOCK FOR COMPLETING A THREE-PEAT BY WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION CLASS 4A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, despite winning a State Championship in his first season as Raymond's Head Coach Tony Tadlock and his team had questions to answer heading into the 2019 season, whether they could replace a core of six seniors who led them to two State championships and whether he and his group of players led by Dandy Dozen Jakorie Smith could pull off a three-peat, one of the most difficult feats to accomplish; and
WHEREAS, Coach Tadlock and his squad answered those questions in full with a 77-62 win over region rival Florence High School to claim the MHSAA Class 4A State Championship on March 7, 2019; and
WHEREAS, it was a game Raymond seemed to have well in hand with a 60-47 lead with 4 minutes and 31 seconds left and then Jakorie Smith and Kearius Stimage fouled out, and a 13-point lead was quickly cut and with the Rangers' best player on the bench, senior Jacob Robinson got a clutch basket that pushed the lead back to eight before he ended the game with 15 points and six rebounds and Jakorie Smith finished with 20 points and nine rebounds and was named the game's Most Valuable Player; and
WHEREAS, the 2018-2019 Raymond High School "Rangers" Boys Championship Basketball Team Roster was comprised of the following players: Jaborie Robinson, Detrevian Broome, Tradavis Thompson, Jordan Marshall, Martavin McWilliams, Kenjuan Davis, Jacob Robinson, Keydarius Downs, Kendarius Armstrong, Jakorie Smith, Keith Miller, Tremaine Dixon and Kearius Stimage; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize these student-athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Raymond High School "Rangers" Boys Basketball Team and Head Coach Tony Tadlock for completing a three-peat by winning the MHSAA Class 4A State Championship and extend to the players, coaches, parents and sponsors our best wishes for a 4-peat.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Head Coach Tony Tadlock, Raymond High School Principal Lorenzo Grimes, the Hinds County Board of Education and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
