A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE HOME BUILDERS ASSOCIATION OF MISSISSIPPI ON THE OCCASION OF ITS 50th ANNIVERSARY.

     WHEREAS, the Home Builders Association of Mississippi was formed in 1961 by Francis X. Collins, Hugh I. Scott and Dave Sherman in Biloxi, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, the vision for the Home Builders Association of Mississippi is to "Build a Better Mississippi"; and

     WHEREAS, the mission of the Home Builders Association of Mississippi is "Building a Better Mississippi" by promoting, advancing and protecting the housing industry; and

     WHEREAS, the Home Builders Association of Mississippi has become one of the most respected trade groups in Mississippi, and is known for representing the building industry at the Nation's

Capitol and the State Capitol; and

     WHEREAS, the Home Builders Association of Mississippi is affiliated with the National Association of Home Builders; and

     WHEREAS, the Home Builders Association of Mississippi is affiliated with 20 local home builder associations across the state; and

     WHEREAS, the Home Builders Association of Mississippi represents thousands of member firms as the voice of the Mississippi housing industry; and

     WHEREAS, the Home Builders Association of Mississippi has played a significant role in pursuing pro-housing legislation that has made homeownership possible for Mississippians; and

     WHEREAS, the Home Builders Association of Mississippi was instrumental in starting the State Housing Finance Agency now known as the Mississippi Home Corporation; and

     WHEREAS, the Home Builders Association of Mississippi has fought and won legal battles for the housing industry including the Mississippi Supreme Court decision striking down the use of

illegal impact fees against builders and developers by municipalities; and

     WHEREAS, the Home Builders Association of Mississippi has created numerous benefits for its members including the Builders and Contractors Associations of Mississippi Self-insured Fund that has returned over $50 Million to its members; and

     WHEREAS, the Home Builders Association of Mississippi has proudly inducted worthy individuals into the Mississippi Housing Hall of Fame; and

     WHEREAS, the Home Builders Association of Mississippi publishes the award-winning magazine, the Mississippi Builder; and

     WHEREAS, the Home Builders Association of Mississippi presents the "Best in Mississippi" housing awards each year; and

     WHEREAS, the Home Builders Association of Mississippi holds the largest and oldest home show in the state each year, the Home and Outdoor Living Extravaganza; and

     WHEREAS, the Home Builders Association of Mississippi hosts the largest gathering of the Mississippi building community each year at its state convention; and

     WHEREAS, the Home Builders Association of Mississippi has created one of the top political action committees in the state, Build PAC; and

     WHEREAS, the Home Builders Association of Mississippi started the Mississippi Housing Institute to provide continuing education to its members; and

     WHEREAS, the Mississippi Housing Institute produces the Homeowner's Handbook; and

     WHEREAS, the Home Builders Association of Mississippi has the Certified Professional Builder and Certified Professional Remodelers programs to offer those professional designations to its members; and

     WHEREAS, the Home Builders Association of Mississippi has the award-winning Mississippi Multifamily Council representing the rental housing builders and developers; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to acknowledge the business and civic leadership and the accomplishments of respected Mississippi professional associations such as the Home Builders Association of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Home Builders Association of Mississippi on the occasion of its 50th Anniversary and extend best wishes to this respected organization on this landmark event.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Marty Milstead, Executive Director of the Home Builders Association of Mississippi, and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
