House Bill 677

AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 41-57-7, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO PROVIDE THAT THE TIME FOR COMPLETING AND FILING A DEATH CERTIFICATE WITH THE OFFICE OF VITAL RECORDS REGISTRATION SHALL BE WITHIN SEVEN BUSINESS DAYS AFTER THE DEATH OCCURS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  Section 41-57-7, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:

     41-57-7.  (1)  The State Board of Health shall formulate and promulgate rules and regulations for the proper reporting and registration of morbidity and vital statistics, prescribing the method and form of making such registration.

     (2)  The rules and regulations promulgated under subsection (1) of this section shall provide that the time for completing and filing a death certificate with the Office of Vital Records Registration shall be within seven (7) business days after the death occurs.

     (3)  Each application or filing made under this section shall include the social security number(s) of the applicant in accordance with Section 93-11-64 * * *, Mississippi Code of 1972.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2021.
