AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 37-13-20, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO EXTEND THE DATE OF REPEAL ON THE PILOT PROGRAM ESTABLISHED WITHIN THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION TO OFFER ITALIAN LANGUAGE CLASSES TO STUDENTS IN KINDERGARTEN THROUGH GRADE 12 IN CERTAIN SCHOOL DISTRICTS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. Section 37-13-20, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:
37-13-20. (1) There is established within the State Department of Education a pilot program to offer Italian language classes to students in kindergarten through Grade 12 in two (2) school districts in the state, subject to the appropriation of sufficient funds for the program. The school districts shall be selected by the Department of Education.
(2) This section shall stand repealed July 1, 2014.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2011.
