House Bill 1148

AN ACT TO CREATE THE CRIME OF RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT; TO PROVIDE THAT SUCH CRIME SHALL BE A MISDEMEANOR; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  (1)  A person commits the crime of reckless endangerment when the person recklessly engages in conduct that places or may place another person in imminent danger of death or serious bodily injury.  Upon conviction for violating the provisions of this section, the person shall be fined up to Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00), placed in the custody of the county jail for not more than one (1) year, or both.

     (2)  The provisions of this section shall not be interpreted or construed to amend, revise or repeal any provisions of Section 63-11-30 or 43-21-301.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2022.
