AN ACT

To amend chapter 565, RSMo, by adding thereto one new section relating to assaulting an athletic official, with a penalty provision.




Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the state of Missouri, as follows:


            Section A. Chapter 565, RSMo, is amended by adding thereto one new section, to be known as section 565.079, to read as follows:

            565.079. 1. A person commits the crime of assaulting an athletic official if such person, without justifiable or excusable cause, and with intent to do bodily harm, commits a misdemeanor assault, as defined in section 565.070, of an athletic official in connection with an athletic event.

            2. As used in this section "athletic official" includes any referee, umpire, timekeeper, coach, or other official having authority in connection with any amateur or professional athletic event.

            3. Notwithstanding the provisions of section 565.070, assaulting an athletic official is a class A misdemeanor.
