1.1A Senate resolution
1.2congratulating Sarah Strauss of Rochester, Minnesota, for receiving the Girl Scout
1.3Gold Award.
1.4WHEREAS, Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, helping girls
1.5to reach their full potential, develop positive values, and contribute to the improvement of society
1.6through their abilities, leadership skills, and cooperation with others; and
1.7WHEREAS, to earn the highest award given by the Girl Scouts of the U.S.A., the Gold
1.8Award, a Girl Scout in high school must complete leadership journeys that help her discover her
1.9interests, connect with others, and take action to make the world a better place. She must then spend
1.10at least 80 hours planning and completing a comprehensive and sustainable take action project that
1.11uses her talent and passion to positively impact her community; and
1.12WHEREAS, Sarah Strauss has displayed the attributes of a responsible and serving member
1.13of the Girl Scouts and has completed all the requirements necessary to earn the Gold Award. Despite
1.14barriers to completing her project as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Sarah persevered by
1.15adapting her plans along the way and she will be formally recognized at a ceremony; and
1.16WHEREAS, following her graduation from John Marshall High School, Sarah will begin a
1.17gap year that will include service as an AmeriCorps volunteer before continuing her education in
1.18a university setting; and
1.19NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.20congratulates Sarah Strauss of Rochester, Minnesota, for receiving the Girl Scout Gold Award and
1.21extends best wishes for her future endeavors.
1.22BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare a
1.23copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the Chair of the
1.24Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Sarah Strauss.
