1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring the city of Lake City upon its sesquicentennial.
1.3WHEREAS, on February 26, 1872, Lake City was incorporated as a city in the State of
1.4Minnesota; and
1.5WHEREAS, renowned as the "Birthplace of Water Skiing," Lake City is located on the
1.6western shore of Lake Pepin, one of the finest sailing lakes in the nation; and
1.7WHEREAS, Lake City is home to the largest small-craft harbor on the Mississippi River,
1.8accommodating up to 600 boats; and
1.9WHEREAS, Lake City is widely known for its attractive surroundings and bountiful fishing
1.10for every fresh water species along with large concentrations of bald eagles and migratory birds;
1.11and
1.12WHEREAS, Lake City was the first site for the Minnesota National Guard training
1.13encampment, named Camp Lakeview, where for 50 years Minnesota soldiers trained in military
1.14protocol; and
1.15WHEREAS, the 5,339 people of Lake City strive to preserve history for future generations
1.16by recording specific times, places, and events that are significant milestones in the city's past; and
1.17NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.18honors the city of Lake City and its residents on February 26, 2022, celebrating that day as the
1.19150th anniversary of incorporation.
1.20BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.21enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.22Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to the city of Lake City.
