1.1A Senate resolution
1.2celebrating the centennial of Birchwood Village, Minnesota.
1.3WHEREAS, the city of Birchwood Village turns 100 years old on September 10, 2021; and
1.4WHEREAS, Birchwood Village was originally a collection of summer residential homes
1.5on the trolley line from St. Paul but grew into a contemporary and diverse community; and
1.6WHEREAS, many families have lived in Birchwood Village for generations and have
1.7fostered a strong sense of community pride that they express through sponsoring and organizing
1.8community events such as dances, bridge and garden clubs, plant exchanges, potluck dinners with
1.9featured speakers, and the annual Birchwood Forth of July parade that is 68 years running; and
1.10WHEREAS, Birchwood Village has a rich architectural history, including the historic Village
1.11Hall Art Deco building that was built in 1932 and the Bell Tower that commemorates the city's
1.12World War II civil defense warning system; and
1.13WHEREAS, Birchwood Village is a beautiful place to live and recreate with 10 parks, six
1.14beaches on nearby White Bear Lake, numerous walking and biking paths, tennis and pickleball
1.15courts, and a hockey rink and picnic area; and
1.16NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.17commemorates the 100 year anniversary of the city of Birchwood Village and celebrates the city's
1.18unique and rich history.
1.19BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.20enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.21Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Mayor Mary Wingfield.
