1.1A Senate resolution
1.2commending Mayor Paul Hicks for 28 years of service with the city of Hastings.
1.3WHEREAS, those civic-minded individuals who work tirelessly in their communities perform
1.4an important service deserving of special legislative recognition; and
1.5WHEREAS, Mayor Paul Hicks is retiring from office after nearly three decades of committed
1.6service to the city of Hastings at the end of his current term as mayor of Hastings; and
1.7WHEREAS, Paul Hicks graduated from Hastings High School in 1978 and from Hamline
1.8University in 1982 with a B.A. in Political Science; and
1.9WHEREAS, Mayor Hicks has a long history of public service and has volunteered with
1.10such organizations as the Hastings Jaycees, Urban Concerns Inc., S.O.A.R., Hastings Alumni
1.11Association, and Hastings Access Television Corporation, and was recognized in 1997 as one of
1.12Ten Outstanding Young Minnesotans by the Minnesota Jaycees; and
1.13WHEREAS, Mayor Hicks is employed by the Minnesota House of Representatives where
1.14he is a supervisor in the Office of the Chief Clerk, acted as chairman of the Parks and Recreation
1.15Commission for six years, was elected as an at-large member to the Hastings City Council in 1990
1.16and was reelected for three additional terms, and was elected mayor of Hastings in 2006 and was
1.17reelected for two additional terms in office; and
1.18WHEREAS, among his many accomplishments while in office was the 2013 completion of
1.19the new U.S. Highway 61 bridge that passes right over the edge of downtown and the Riverfront
1.20Renaissance project, which won a League of Minnesota Cities 2016 City of Excellence Award and
1.21helped revitalize the riverfront area of Hastings; and
1.22WHEREAS, upon his retirement, Mayor Hicks will be fortunate to spend more time with
1.23his daughter, Danielle, and will continue to be an avid supporter of Gopher sports; and
2.1NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
2.2commends Mayor Paul Hicks for 28 years of service, extends appreciation for his contributions to
2.3the city of Hastings, and congratulates him on his retirement from office.
2.4BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
2.5enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
2.6Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Mayor Paul Hicks.
